Getting started.

So, I've had a blog for years. It's my life, mostly unfiltered and unedited, and so it contains a lot of stuff about certain hobbies and activities I have that my nearest and dearest don't share, and probably aren't interested in reading about. This is not that blog, of course. I think I need another one for mundane, real-life use where I can post the sort of thing I don't mind the whole world reading.

Anyway, yes, this can be a beginning. My name is Iona. I'm an undergraduate reading Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Balliol College, Oxford. This does give me a lot to blog about, perhaps more than you'd think. Philosophy is my thing - well, inasmuch as philosophy can be a "thing"; let's say it's my field of interest, academically speaking - but one day I'm going to need a career. If I can borrow a line from a sitcom, how often do you look in the classifieds and see "Philosopher wanted"? Not that often. Unless I write the Great Novel some day soon, I fully expect to be a penniless graduate who knows lots about Plato. This thought terrifies me.

Moving on, I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to post here. I think what will end up happening is that I'll copy and paste the interesting things from the other blog, as and when there are any, and people who don't want to read the rest but would rather listen to me talk about entirely non-fictional things can then have somewhere to read me.

Ah, I'm so egotistical, assuming people will want to read me. Never mind, I can talk to myself.
